The method of choice for the dimensioning and evaluation of these components is the time history method in combination with direct integration of the differential equation. This article describes mathematical models for the main components and shows how to chose the model parameters. The function of a non-linear component is verified using the example of a shock absorber in a piping system which is analysed when fluid hammer loads are applied.
