The Waste Management Company (AWM) is the municipal waste disposal company of the city of Munich. AWM stands for reliable and environmentally high-quality waste disposal services for Munich households and businesses at stable and fair fees. They work on the basis of an ecological waste management concept that was adopted by the Munich City Council in 1988/89 and updated in 2017.
The company does not only empty the bins on time, they ensure the long-term security of residual waste disposal and waste recycling. Furthermore, they contribute to the quality of life and sustainability of our city by keeping waste charges stable, increasing the recycling rate and closing material cycles.
Tasks of the AWM
• Collection, disposal and recycling of residual waste, paper waste and biowaste
• Recycling and marketing of recyclable materials
• Operation and maintenance of 200 refuse collection vehicles, three depots and workshops
• Operation of 12 recycling centres
• Operation and renaturation of the North-West Landfill in the Freimann Waste Management Park
• AWM Infocentre as central advice centre for households and businesses
• Elaboration of bylaws for the organisation of waste management and enforcement of bylaws
• Implementation of the waste concept of the City of Munich
• Development and implementation of waste prevention strategies
• Fee billing and preparation of waste fee notices
• Planning of all waste management facilities, taking into account the latest technological developments in waste management
• Development of strategies and measures to improve the separation morale
• Littering of public areas is taken care of by the street cleaning service.
