On December 1, 2023, the 28th World Climate Change Conference (COP28) will begin in Dubai under the presidency of the United Arab Emirates.160 heads of state and government are expected to attend the kick-off event, the World Climate Action Summit. The most important task for this year's world climate conference is the Global Stocktake (GST). In accordance with the Paris Agreement, this is the first time that an assessment has been made of where the signatory states stand with regard to climate protection. It is also the basis for new national climate targets (Nationally Determined Contributions or NDCs) for the period after 2030.

In this context, it is doubly important that WtERT contributes to COP28 by sharing its recent studies regarding methane emissions from landfills using satellites and advice on the importance of diverting waste from landfills and stressing the important role of academia to fight misinformation and advance research with key data on WtE.

We are also proud to be represented by Dr. Mohamed Abdallah, WtERT United Arab Emirates and M.Sc. Yuri Schmitke A. B. Tisi,WtERT Brasil.
