India, a country known for its rich cultural heritage and diverse population, has made significant strides in waste management and cleanliness over the years
Dr. Vivek S Agrawal

India has organised Swaccha bharat abhiyan in 2014 under which aims to achieve a clean and open defecation-free India by 2022. The below information explores the initiatives and their contributions to India's evolving attitude towards waste management and cleanliness.
The Center for development communication (CDC) is registered in Rajasthan. It focusses on in order to help improve the quality-of-life urban poor. CDC is registered under the Public Trust Act 1959, in Jaipur, Rajasthan. CDC has a working team called "Swaccha Bharat Mitra”. This team is dedicated to door-to-door waste collection, transportation, waste processing, and integrated waste management for communities. CDC is working with various projects for government, benefitting the communities and stakeholders at a micro level. The projects involve door to door collection and transportation of waste, processing of waste, and integrated waste management for communities.
In India another program is conducting called "Annakshetra”. In this program organization works with the elimination of food waste. This mission was started in 2010. Since then, they are eliminating biowaste as well as reduced carbon footprint. The food is collected from donors, unused food from social gatherings, schools, company warehouses, households left over food and stored in cold rooms under the hygienic conditions, and then distributed to the poor people who can’t afford two times meal in a day. Annakshetra team is working on with various projects:
1) Annakshetra at school: Annakshetra has installed refrigerator, student can put their surplus tiffin food in the fridge. The message of reducing food waste, minimizing the environmental impact also is given to students.
2) Ghar ghar annakshetra: In this program "The Sustenance Fridge” refrigerator is installed on public street. Here people can leave the surplus food and needy persons can come, collect and take it home to eat.3) Utsav annakshetra: In this program on specific events or festivals, extra sweets are collected from donners and distributed in poor people.
4) Mahabhoj events: in this program on the special days of wedding and celebration surplus food is collected by team. More than 15000 underprivileged people enjoyed the surplus food which was collected from 17 Marriage Gardens.
India has changed its attitude toward cleanliness and waste management. Initiatives like the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, spearheaded by the government, and organizations like CDC and Annakshetra have played pivotal roles in transforming India's waste management landscape.
